Lineage
According to legend as told in the Development of the Northern Praying Mantis Style translation. Wong Long was a among a group of monks who survived the burning of the Shaolin Temple and avoided being captured by the Manchu troops by fleeing to a monastery on Shan Tung’s Mt. Lao, Laoshan Temple, which became their new home as told in the
Wong Long and the Laoshan Temple monks (1) looked upon Mantis Boxing as nothing less than a treasure and did not lightly share it with outsiders. A long time passed before the Daoist Sheng Xiao (2) traveled to Laoshan Temple and received permission from the abbot to learn the complete art. Mantis Boxing was then spread beyond the temple.
Our lineage is represented through Li San Jian (3), Wang Rong Sheng (4), and the teachings of Fan Xu Dong (5).
Through masters in the modern era, Luo Guang Yu (6), who passed it down to Hong Kong, Shanghai and other parts of Southern China via the Jingwu Athletic Association and by his disciple Huang Han Xun, (7) (Wong Hun Fan) the Mantis King of Hong Kong. Through the physical teachings of Grandmaster Chow Chi Fung (8) (Philipman Chow) student of Wong Hon Fan who traveled to North America and spread the system across Canada.

This site was created to promote and preserve the works of the great masters Luo Guangyu, Huang Han Xun, (Wong Hun Fan) and my Sifu, GM Chow Chi Fung (Philipman Chow)
